What is breast surgery, or cosmetic breast surgery?

Cosmetic breast surgery, also referred to as Mammoplasty or Mastoplasty, is one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgeries performed here in the UAE. It is an invasive surgery that helps women restore the look of their breasts. When many women undergo different changes with their bodies such as having a mastectomy (breast removal) and experiencing weight loss, it causes a visual imbalance of the breasts both in and out of clothes. Ultimately, the trickle-down effect of this physical transformation causes many women to feel embarrassed and have lower self-esteem. What are different types of breast surgery, or cosmetic breast surgery?

Cosmetic breast surgery has three main types of procedures: augmentation, reduction and reconstruction. They are used interchangeably by plastic surgeons to achieve a specific end result. 

1. Breast augmentation is an option for women with smaller, asymmetrical or sagging breasts. Using either saline or silicone implants, breasts can be enlarged to their desired size.

3. Breast reconstruction surgery is performed for women who lose a breast from a mastectomy, or having other related physical deformities of the breast. This surgery reconstructs the breast to help match with the opposite breast using implants and tissue transfer from one’s own body.

There are some other cosmetic breast surgeries available such as: 

• Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, is a procedure to restore the breasts to a more youthful appearance without the use of any implants. However, this procedure is usually combined with breast implants for women who don’t have enough fat tissue in their breasts. 

• Breast implant removal is simply a procedure to remove breast implants. This is a procedure reserved for women who need to replace implants that are usually over 15 years old, damaged, compromised, or simply for patients who are no longer happy with their implants. Since breast implants are not a life-time device, breast implant removal is a needed procedure in the long-term.

Many clinics in Dubai are reluctant to give you a price over the phone for cosmetic breast surgeries since every candidate’s body and expectations are different. Therefore, a complete in-person consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary for a clinic to quote a price for the requested surgery. However, through some team analysis we were able to find the following prices for some cosmetic breast surgeries in Dubai: 

• The starting price for breast augmentation or breast implants is between AED 27,000 and AED 30,000. 

• The starting price for a breast lift is between AED 27,000 and AED 30,000. 

• The starting price for a breast implant removal is between AED 25,000 and AED 30,000. To replace the implants in the same procedure will cost an extra AED 8,000 to AED 10,000.   

• The starting price for breast reduction is between AED 28,000 and AED 30,000.
