Specializing in respiratory disorders in children, Basil graduated from the University of Khartoum, Sudan and then went on to complete his PhD thesis at the University of Birmingham (UK) on the control of breathing in children. He then completed his training in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Respiratory Medicine in the UK and Ireland. He began practicing as a Pediatric Respiratory Consultant in 2002.
He was appointed in one of the leading hospitals in Ireland, as Consultant in Pediatric Respiratory Medicine at the National Children’s Hospital/Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin. During his medical career in Dublin, Basil worked as a Consultant Pediatric Pulmonologist, with clinical and research interests in asthma, chronic cough, cystic fibrosis and sleep disordered breathing in children. He is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland where he was heavily involved in research and teaching.
In 2011 he was appointed as the National specialty Director at the Royal college of Physicians in Ireland, responsible for higher specialty training in pediatrics.
In 2015, he joined Al Jalila Children’s as a Consultant Pediatric Pulmonologist, and went on to become the Medical Director in April 2016.
Basil has presented and published extensively his research ( more than 40 peer-reviewed publications), and has given a number of invited presentations both nationally and internationally. He is an esteemed and respected member of several societies including the British Paediatric Respiratory Society, the European Respiratory Society, and the American Thoracic Society.

I'm forever grateful for Dr Basil al Nazir from Al Jaleela hospital. He is the first doctor to diagnose my son's Cancer correctly after 2 years of failed diagnosis by other that (don't deserve to be called doctors ). Thank You Dr Basil for saving my son . God bless you - by hessa alqassimi
