Profile for International Hospital of Bahrain

International Hospital of Bahrain has 0 medical staff across 0 specialties.

We began way back in the seventies in a small flat in the Salmaniya Highway. It was the first private clinic of the first UK-qualified Bahraini Surgeon in the Island, Mr. Faysal Saeed Zeerah. He did his pre-medical education in private schools in the United Kingdom, his medical education in the National School of Medicine in Wales and his surgical training in Wales. Mr. Zeerah was instrumental, along with Dr. Ali Fakhro, the first Minister of Health, in designing and building the present Salmaniya Medical Center. Mr. Zeerah then decided to branch out and build the first private hospital in the Kingdom, at a time when the State was totally committed to total medical care for all the population. Mr. Zeerah operated on a regular basis in the Awali Hospital and the American Mission Hospital. He foresaw the importance of private medicine and he strongly believed in starting it. The International Hospital of Bahrain WLL was formed in October 1978, as a modest clinic with very few beds, with Mr. Zeerah as the only doctor. Dr. Reginald Hutchings soon joined as gynaecologist and obstetrician, and gradually the services of the hospital expanded. Physiotherapy, a small laboratory and later on radiology were added. Over the years the services grew; and throughout the development of the Hospital quality was stressed in all aspects of the services offered to the community. It is the loyalty of the community, their support and sponsorship which created the hospital, and which built all of its facilities. It is a truly community hospital in every sense of the word. The hospital is very much dedicated to its community. There are today around eighty doctors (most are specialists and consultants) who practice in the hospital. Most of the major specialties are represented. By the end of this year about one hundred doctors will practice ultra-specialties or subspecialties. There are almost four hundred dedicated hospital people who dedicate themselves to the service of the community. Every now and then there are new specialties added, there are always new state-of-the-art equipment commissioned, and extra space created to take care of the expansion. The hospital is in a constant state of change, as the needs of the community change. We all look forward to see where this will lead us over the next ten years, as we have seen the wonderful changes that took place in the last two years; changes which are substantial. We need more beds, and we are forced to commission the remainder of our official bed capacity to have over 100 beds available to meet the needs of the community, with the plan that even more beds will be needed in the very near future. We have started our first satellite clinic in Manama in 2007, with a bigger second satellite clinic planned. Continuity of Medical leadership puts its mark on the day to day management of the patient. Daily auditing of all medical records to ensure proper management consumes a great deal of time and effort, but keeps quality at the highest possible level. Mr Zeerah is still elected, and appreciated as the Medical Director, the Chief of Medical Staff associated with the hospital since it was started. Most of the medical staff look at long-term service and attachment to the community. You see the word "community" repeated. Our patients are the center of our life, and their service is the only reason for the existence of the International Hospital of Bahrain, a hospital built by the community, and with their support, for their service. It is here to give them what they want, and what they deserve; namely the best possible and available medical care. If our history be gauged to forecast the future, the International Hospital of Bahrain will continue to offer the very best in health care, as its only objective is service to the community, and not financial gains.
