Dr. Tiernan Byrnes qualified from Edinburgh University in 1997 and trained in St George’s, King’s College Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital and The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. His Postgraduate Research Thesis (MD) was awarded by The University of London. He obtained his Neurosurgery Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons (Ireland) in 2009 and completed his CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training), UK in 2010.
After a Complex Spinal Fellowship in The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore) and The National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery (Queen Square) he worked in St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospital, with a specialist interest in Complex Spine Surgery including: Spinal Trauma, Spinal Tuberculosis and Spinal Tumour. Prior to joining us, Dr. Byrnes worked within the Private sector, since 2013, as a Consultant Neurosurgeon with The One Health Group, U.K.
Dr. Byrnes is a highly skilled Spinal Neurosurgeon with broad expertise. All procedures are performed microsurgically with minimally invasive techniques. His ethos is “Maximum Benefit for Minimum Risk” achieved by careful clinical and neurological assessment and close attention to patients’ expectations. Non-Surgical treatments are always considered first and surgery only advised where an expectation of good outcome is assured.
