Dr. Serino has been appointed at the Heart and Vascular Institute of the new Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, which will join shortly. He has been employed by IDI Research Hospital in Rome from 1997, serving as Director of the Endovascular program. He graduated with honors in 1983 by the Catholic University School of Medicine in Rome and completed his residency in general Surgery in 1987 by the DpT of Surgery of the University of Rome ?la Sapienza?. He worked since 1987 as assistant professor of Surgery at the Catholic University, in the department of Special Surgery and Transplantation of the University Hospital A. Gemelli in Rome, where he contributed to start one of the first diabetic foot surgery programs in Italy.
In 1989 he was invited as Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Texas of Houston, and regained his position at The Catholic University Hospital in Rome , founding the first endovascular program in Rome. For his reason he was invited in 1997 to join the vascular Surgery of the IDI research Hospital with the objective to set up the endovascular program as well as a clinical research program focused on Critical Limb Ischemia and Diabetic Foot treatment angiogenesis and gene therapy. In 2002 he was appointed as head of the endovascular program, accounting for more than 3000 vascular interventions, was site principal Investigator of 12 clinical research projects, completed 240 publications and presented as faculty in 150 national or international meetings. He has been constantly working in the field of innovation and development and reached important achievements as several research grants and cooperation with Research Institution and Industries: He is currently Director of the Biomedical Unit of Explora Biotech ,Italy, Associate Professor at the Institute for Advanced Biomaterials of National Council for Research (Italy) and Visiting Professor at the Institute of Material Science of the Nanyang University of Singapore.
