Profile for Dr. Catherine Ndinatsei Makura

Moved to the UK in 2001 and did all my postgraduate training in anaesthesia in the U.K in the Wessex and West Midlands Deanery schools of anaesthesia.  After obtaining my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the RCOA, I worked as a Consultant anaesthetist in the NHS for 5 years until 2016. In addition to clinical duties I taught and assisted in mock examinations for students preparing for the FRCA examinations, and acted as educational supervisor for registrars in training assigned to me. I contributed to departmental polices in Bariatric surgery and Obstetric anaesthesia services.

I have experience in the provision of anaesthesia for a broad range of surgeries in the adult and paediatric population, with comprehensive experience in providing anaesthesia for complex morbidly obese patients undergoing bariatric surgery, patients undergoing major maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedic surgery, and analgesia and anaesthesia for high risk obstetric patients. I have also worked in busy tertiary cardiac, neuro and hepatobiliary intensive care units

At the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, I consolidated my skills in performing ultrasound scan guided nerve blocks for limb, shoulder, knee and hip surgery, together with attending ultrasound and anatomy  workshops as a longstanding member of the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia (ESRA).  I am passionate about patient safety, patient experience, quality of patient care, and improving patient outcomes. I was the hospital lead for the anaesthesia department at Walsall Healthcare trust for the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit (NELA), aimed at improving safety and outcomes in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy surgery in England and Wales.

I have broad experience in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols in all surgical specialties.

Dr. Catherine Ndinatsei Makura's specialty is Pain Medicine and currently works as a Consultant Anaesthetist.
